 SamHOMETOWN: Ogden, Utah CLASS YEAR: 2018 MAJOR: Geology GAP YEAR: I made artwork, went on road trips, spent time with my family, and hiked with my dog every day. I then backpacked across Northern China and then followed the East Australian coast from Sydney to Cairns. I ended my incredible year Brown County, IN where I worked as a camp counselor for inner city kids from low income families. I lived with a host family, attended a Gymnasium (German high school), and focused on learning the language and culture. When time allowed, I enjoyed exploring new cities.  RachelHOMETOWN: Rockland, ME CLASS YEAR: 2018 MAJOR: Undecided GAP YEAR: For my gap year I volunteered with adults with special needs in Callan, Ireland as part of an international organisation called Camphill. The organisation is founded on Karl König’s philosophy of “life-sharing”, which is the basis for the holistic life style fostered by the communities. CONTACT: r.langeschneider@gmail.com |  DaniloHOMETOWN: Uberlandia, Brazil CLASS YEAR: 2018 MAJOR: Film and Media Culture GAP YEAR: Living in Rio de Janeiro and sharing a house with people from 5 different countries, I volunteered in project that helped favelas of Rio, I joined a nucleus of scientific research, produced a documentary, interned at a film production company, created a crowdfunding campaign, and produced a show that premiered at a theatre in my hometown.  HannahHOMETOWN: Miami, FL CLASS YEAR: 2018 MAJOR: Undecided GAP YEAR: Congressional Bundestag Youth Vocational Exchange.Worked as a kindergarten teacher and lived with a host family in Freiburg, Germany for the year. I also managed to see 27 different cities 9 different countries in my spare time! Traveled around France and Scotland for a while.  KarinaHOMETOWN: Seattle, WA CLASS YEAR: 2017 MAJOR: International Politics and Economics with a focus in Arabic. GAP YEAR: I studied Mandarin at Yantai University and taught English to everyone from 6 year old children to pharmaceutical lawyers in Yantai, China for 10 months. During holiday breaks, I traveled all around China via planes, trains, and automobiles.
